Christmas came early this year. I no longer have to endure the 1400 hour page loads with ESPN to see how badly my beloved FSU Seminoles are losing. With SportsTap I can now quickly check scores from my iPhone no matter where I am. Particularly impressive is the speed of the site–it is much, much faster than both Yahoo sports and ESPN, my two regular haunts for live updates. It has all the major teams in all professional sports so I would consider this to be a must-have. Check it out for yourself.

For all the things I love about Google, I can’t stand their Googlepages setup. Although I had some trouble getting to the site with my laptop, my iPhone rendered the site perfectly and I was able to check out the iPhone Meditation Timer. Since I’m in an airport now I can’t say that I actually tried it while meditating, but all of the features worked exactly how I expected–can you ask for more than that with any application?
Thanks Joe! Check it out here.

I’ll be honest with you–I had no idea what this when I first hit the site. I get about six submissions a day and usually if I can’t figure the application out in about 5 seconds I’m gone. I invested another five for this one, for whatever reason, and I’m very glad I did. What Personal Radio does is essentially aggregate podcasts for your listening enjoyment. Once I figured this out I immediately bookmarked it. Since I travel a lot this will save me the hassle of pre-planning what I want to have available to me and I can stay up on anything I want. Awesome. Bookmark it!

Like most of the newer apps, this one runs off a gas API and AJAX’s the results. It’s reasonably fast and, since I just got gas this morning, I can tell you that the information is accurate. Check it out here: iPhone Gas App.

So you want an application that actually does something? Something real? Something that can actually provide practical information and not just look pretty? Get iPhone Traffic now. Is it beautiful? No, no it’s not. If I lived in the UK would I use it every day? Absolutely. iPhone Traffic feeds traffic stats to help you choose the quickest route. It’s conveniently broken down by country/city/section and although I personally would have added a little bit of color to the words for at-a-glance-while-driving I would consider this one a must-have. Get it now.

Running off (what I would suspect to be the Google Maps API), is iPhone Route, a very handy, very compact little app that lets you plug in two places and returns the step-by-step directions (sans map). Just for kicks I thought I would try to really test it out by only entering city names without any sort of qualifiers by state and it worked admirably. There are few apps that I would really want to give to my wife but this is one. Highly recommended.

Quote Sheet isn’t just an iPhone application, it’s a full service business. Like, the Facebook Application I reviewed a few weeks ago, the product they offer was already in existence and the iPhone module came out to further business. Since the app is really just repackaged for use on the iPhone I’m a bit reluctant to review it, good or bad. With that said, here’s some information from their site:
Quote Sheet is a fully customizable, 100% online quotation service that can be customized for any business in any industry. Quote Sheet helps you easily build quotations for your customers no matter the products or services you sell, and built-in tools like quotation emailing and PayPal payment processing means there is no better way to take your business to the next level.

PrecisePDA is a capable news headline feeder. It loads quickly but was slightly too wide for my screen. It does exactly what you would expect to do and for that it’s worth looking at. You can’t sort by category or select topics so it’s kind of limiting in that regard but it certainly does what it’s supposed to do–feed those headlines.

Since yesterday’s weather app was a little lacking, today’s we have a fully developed, intuitive one for you. From one of my favorite sites, Albino Blacksheep, we have iPhone Weather. Honestly, it’s everything AccuWeather’s wasn’t. It let me change my location from the main page and loaded about 10x faster. Bookmark that puppy.

AccuWeather was smart enough to develop a Firefox plugin and capitalized on that traffic to rival weather.com. For the second time they made the leap, this time producing an iPhone widget for the iPhone. It’s available here. While definitely a noble effort, I personally had some problems getting it off the default settings and inputting my zip code. I know they’re trying to really pack in the features but a little more time could have been spend on the usability. Good things take time though, and I don’t doubt they’ll be releasing a more efficient version in the near future.
